Fourth quarter shortened during North Carolina’s blowout of Old Dominion

Oddly, Old Dominion led the game 10-7 early in the in the game and it was just a 14-13 North Carolina lead at the end of the first quarter.

But that’s when the floodgates opened. The Tar Heels scored five touchdowns in the second quarter and then a sixth in the third quarter before Old Dominion was able to get back on the board.

North Carolina would go on to score four more times in the third quarter before the decision to shorten the fourth quarter was made

Bernie Kosar tells police he can’t do a sobriety test because his offensive line ‘couldn’t block’

It took a couple decades, but former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar finally lashed out at his offensive line.

The setting for ripping his old teammates was unusual, as Kosar was on the side of the road while police administered a number of sobriety tests.

Kosar was pulled over early Sunday morning on suspicion of drunk driving, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, which cited the police report. He handed police two credit cards when asked for identification, then when police asked for his driver’s license he pointed to one of the credit cards.

PEYTON Manning remained unbeaten in his NFL quarterback rivalry against younger brother Eli. Peyton threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Denver Broncos to a 41-23 victory over the New York Giants. As their ex-NFL quarterback father Archie Manning watched, Peyton took his third triumph in as many tries over Eli today, although the elder sibling’s first two came when he played for Indianapolis.“I think both of us are glad that it’s over with,” Peyton Manning said.

Pa. player may face criminal charges after ripping helmet off foe and beating him with it

A horrific in-game incident during a Pennsylvania football game could lead to criminal charges after a player ripped the helmet off one of his opponents during a scuffle and proceeded to beat his fellow teenager with it.

As reported by Susquehanna Valley NBC affiliate WGAL and PennLive, among other sources, Hamburg (Pa.) High senior quarterback and safety Joey Cominsky ripped the helmet off of Annville-Cleona lineman Josh Hartmann during an on-field skirmish between the two squads. What happened next was horrifying, as Cominsky raised the helmet and began to strike Hartmann in the head with the piece of sporting equipment.

On Sunday, three NFL teams ran 53 plays in their entire game. Carolina ran 50.

The Eagles ran 53 plays in the first half alone on Monday night.

Tempo alone doesn’t make an offense dangerous. Some teams believed that when they copied the Patriots’ uptempo style. Jacksonville used some no-huddle looks in the preseason and Week 1, but no matter how fast the Jaguars play on offense they won’t be any good.

But the Eagles, at least for Week 1, were fast, fun and great.

Arizona school pulls off incredible football prank on QB

Ladies and gentlemen, here is your well-meaning high school football prank of the year.

The prank comes from the Saddle Mountain region of Arizona, where Tonopah (Az.) Tonopah Valley High plays its football. Evidently they also have time to plan fairly elaborate pranks, as they proved by having the entire team drop to the ground save the one man who wasn’t in on the joke … the starting quarterback.

According to MaxPreps’ Tonopah Valley roster, the player being pranked appears to be quarterback Colt Thompson, who, according to the video’s YouTube description, was “sent off to get something.” Some have already dubbed the stunt the “fainting goat.”
