Jets play footsie with Tebow and Sanchez on depth chart, lose another horrible game

Yahoo! Sports

The New York Jets’ quarterback situation, which has been slapstick all season, has officially degraded to the “killer joke” status once foretold by Monty Python’s Flying Circus. On the flip cards released to the media before the team’s game today at MetLife Stadium against the San Diego Chargers, Mark Sanchez AND Tim Tebow were each named as the #2 quarterbacks behind starter Greg McElroy.

In the end, it didn’t matter. The Jets lost another game to fall to 6-9, and McElroy was sacked 11 times in the 27-17 defeat to the San Diego Chargers. Perhaps the Jets would have been better off if Tebow, who didn’t throw a pass, blocked as some sort of H-back hybrid. McElroy completed 14 of 24 passes for 185 yards and a pick, though he should be given some sort of award for making it through the entire game. The only exciting pass play from the Jets came from the arm of receiver Jeremy Kerley on one of the rare gimmick plays that actually worked out for offensive coordinator Tony Sparano all season. Early in the first quarter, Kerley completed a 42-yard pass to Clyde Gates.
